Assurance Intern Review

You are put into one of the auditing teams within a sub-service line and help out with the tasks that can be easily taught. You can ask questions as people are happy to answer, and they appreciate you helping. I would generally have a teams call with someone, be informed on how to complete a task, for example checking the financial statement against the evidence and referencing them on the documents.

We were given certain tasks that were simple enough to do without much background knowledge. Sometimes I was left to my own devices as the team were waiting for responses form the client or everyone was too busy to delegate me tasks, however I did some online learning which EY advocate and have many resources online to do, which was great.

Yes! I have developed a wealth of skills and understanding, for example becoming more familiar with excel, though I was already, gaining more attention to detail by searching for differences and specific numbers. Further, you can be taught the whole process of auditing and then be shown in depth a more specific part. The internship is around the end part of the processing for some teams, so I was taught that in depth.

During the internship you are given a buddy who is someone of a similar rank, who you can always ask questions, even if they seem trivial. Further, when you are given a task you can always ask whoever instructed you follow up questions, as everyone is happy to help. If you find yourself without work just reach out to people, everyone wants some help!

The atmosphere of EY is great. They have so many networks within it that you can get involved in, and everyone is super friendly.

I really enjoyed it, I have never experienced anything like it and therefore I feel very lucky and privileged. On the first week I did not have work and people did not seem to know what to do with me, which I was disheartened about, but the following weeks were great as people begun to give me work. I hope I can continue to work there, but we will see! Ah
