Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Most days start with running reports and sending them off. On busier days, I'm assisting with non-critical thinking work to alleviate the team's paperwork. If you have any coding knowledge, you'll be helping improve the reports functionality, and occasionally filing claims and invoices.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
A lot. All the responsibilities I had been given feel meaningful and there may have been noticeable communication setbacks had I not showed up to work. Even though I was trained to mainly assist the team, I was given additional unique responsibilities.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
This role has a lot of breadth, the first 4 weeks have a steep training curve, you learn just enough to assist the team with what they may rely on you for, but this was mainly an opportunity for me to develop my coding. Even though the job doesn't relate directly to my engineering degree, there were plenty of opportunities to exercise engineering knowledge, you just have to look and ask.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
A lot. My managers prioritised my industrial improvement over any responsibilities they gave me, and the team was always quick to help with any uncertainties I had that they could help with.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
A lot. I learned a lot, had a lot of fun at socials, both with my work colleagues and the 30-odd other people on placement who also went to the socials. The meaningful work was probably the biggest contributor to my enjoyment, it far exceeded the mundane intern work I might have expected.

Apply on time. It doesn't take a lot of effort to form a half-coherent cover letter and a decently formatted CV. Just make sure you see the process through. You'll be sure to find meaningful responsibilities and learn a lot here anyway.
