Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Being apart of a Full Stack team, I'd have tasks to add incremental value to a project or fix bugs. I'd attend a daily standup meeting where as a team we would go over everyone's tasks and get help.
I'd then work on my task, sometimes work on it with another developper, help others on the team or attend meetings such as retrospective meetings, planning meetings or refinement sessions. I'd be in close communication with my colleagues and take initiative when not assigned a task.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given a lot of freedom to take initiative and take control of decisions. I never felt I was treated differently compared to other graduates. I was able to take lead in a project which at first felt weird as I am a lot younger than my colleagues, but I was reassured by my superiors who treated us all the same, regardless of our background. I was given a variety of tasks and appreciate each opportunity I was given.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have been able to develop a lot of skills throughout my placement. In terms of technical skills, I was able to get very experienced in Typescript, React and Next.JS. I was also able to become proficient in Golang. In terms of soft skills, I was really able to grow in confidence, develop my communication skills, working efficiently in a team and patience with other colleagues to take the necessary time to help them.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

Given that the company was going through a split, my manager was very busy and I completely understand it. Despite not having many formal reviews, I was always able to get positive feedback and everyone was very approachable and always available for help.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Everyone was very pleasant, helpful, approachable and kind. We had a great work ethic and believed in team cohesion.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I couldn't have had a better placement. I think I'm extremely lucky to have been able to spend my 10 months with Atos/Eviden. The team was different than the standard and abled me to have such opportunities.
