Production – Year in Industry

Why this role matters

Help turn complex plans into safe, secure and high-quality production. You’ll support the teams that manufacture and assemble mission-critical components, helping operations deliver safely, securely and in line with authorised processes.

At a glance

• Entry requirement: At least a 2:2 in an Engineering or Science-based degree, with an interest in production, operations, planning, processes or leadership. You must be graduating in either 2029 or 2030.
• Security clearance: You must be a UK national, hold a UK passport, have lived in the UK for the past 10 years and be willing and able to obtain and maintain DV security clearance.
• Working pattern: A 9-day working fortnight, with every second Friday off. This is a site and office-based operational role, mainly at Aldermaston with opportunities to visit Burghfield. Due to the nature of the work, working from home cannot be guaranteed.

What you could work on

• Production operations: Learn how production facilities manufacture components and support assembly through authorised processes.
• Planning and delivery: Help plan operational schedules, understand risks and opportunities, and support programme delivery.
• Team coordination: Work with engineering, quality, environment, safety and health, and facility teams to enable safe operations.
• People and performance: Gain insight into workforce capability, visual management, leadership and the development of operations staff.

Why being onsite will support your development

This is a site and office-based operational placement, mainly at Aldermaston with opportunities to visit Burghfield. Due to the nature and security of the work, we cannot guarantee working from home. Being onsite gives you direct access to production specialists and operational facilities. You will receive relevant training before working in facilities involving nuclear or explosive materials.

Where this placement could take you

You’ll gain experience in production planning, operational delivery, safety, stakeholder management and leadership. This can prepare you for careers such as Process Specialist or Delivery Manager, with routes into senior delivery, technical or leadership roles and potential to return through a future graduate opportunity.

What happens after you apply

3. Virtual assessment centre Successful candidates will be invited to a virtual assessment centre, expected between October 2026 and January 2027.
4. Pre-assessment support You’ll be invited to a webinar with practical guidance on what to expect.
5. Offer and clearance If successful, you’ll move into the offer and security-clearance stages ahead of joining on 2 August 2027.
