Job Description

Five years from now, what will you remember?

The assessment centre, potentially? Your first day maybe? However, you will likely remember the client who trusted you sooner than you expected, maybe the project that stretched you or the moment you realised you weren’t just learning about consulting anymore that’s the moment you became a consultant.

It’s the experiences in your job that matter, not the first line on your CV, so don’t just choose somewhere to start your career. Choose somewhere that’ll change it. Choose Consulting at RSM UK.

WHAT IS CONSULTING

The organisations we work with are navigating new technology, changing regulation, economic uncertainty and rising expectations. They need people who can connect ideas, understand businesses and solve problems that rarely have straightforward answers.

That's where your career starts. From day one, you'll contribute to real client work, learning alongside experienced colleagues and gradually taking on more responsibility as your confidence grows.

Most of your learning won't happen behind a screen. It'll happen in client meetings, project discussions and conversations with colleagues who've spent years helping organisations solve complex challenges.

Where your consulting career begins

No two consulting careers look the same. Everyone starts somewhere, learns something different and gradually discovers what they're best at.

When you join us, you'll begin your career in one of our two largest solutions: Finance Function Support or Risk and Governance where your skills, strengths and the needs of the business come together, giving you the best possible start.

You can find more information about each area of Consulting here: https://www.rsmuk.com/careers/early-careers/consulting

WHAT YOU COULD BE DOING

You’ll spend five days a week in the office or with clients because that's where real consulting happens, working with experienced colleagues who'll support you, challenge you and help you build confidence as you go.

Depending on which solution you join, you could be doing:

  • Preparing statutory financial statements and supporting financial reporting and compliance activities.
  • Turning financial information into meaningful insight that helps clients make confident decisions.
  • Meeting people at every level of an organisation, from frontline teams to senior leadership.
  • Conducting interviews, reviewing documents, analysing data and testing how organisations manage risk.
  • Taking part in the full audit and assurance lifecycle, from planning through to report writing and presenting findings.
  • Delivering practical recommendations that help organisations strengthen the way they work.

Think of it as your first chapter, not your destination.

What we're looking for

We're looking for people who are curious, open to new ideas and motivated to keep learning. You don't need all the answers. None of us did when we started. If you enjoy solving problems, asking questions, working with people and learning from experienced colleagues every day, you'll fit right in.

  • A minimum of 112 UCAS points across three A levels (or equivalent level 3 qualification), 104 UCAS points across four Scottish Highers/Advanced Highers or an Irish Leaving Certificate (higher level).
  • A predicted/obtained honours degree.
  • An existing, permanent right to live and work in the UK for this role.
  • A willingness to travel to client sites and other offices as required.
  • RSM does not accept General Studies, AS levels or the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

Your start date will be 14 September 2027. Start dates are mandatory – the training you receive from day one is designed to give you the best possible start to your career with us.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

You’ll get structured training, professional qualifications and real client experience in a team where every voice is heard. You’ll be supported to grow your technical knowledge, build commercial confidence and shape a career that feels like your own.

Alongside your client work, you'll study towards a recognised professional qualification, fully supported by us.

  • You’ll work towards either the CIMA qualification or depending on location you will work towards the ACA (ICAS in Scotland and CAI in Northern Ireland) helping you build technical expertise, commercial understanding and professional credibility for a long-term career in consulting.
  • Learn through a mix of client work, structured training including paid study leave, time at college, mentoring and internal development programmes.
  • Access lifestyle, health and wellbeing benefits, including financial wellbeing support, that you can tailor to your needs.

Your career doesn't start when you know everything. It starts when you’re ready to learn.

Diversity and Inclusion at RSM

At RSM, we want to create a strong sense of belonging so that people of all identities, backgrounds, and cultures feel they can bring their true self to work. Our clients come from all walks of life. We aim to achieve that same diversity of background, experience and perspective in our own teams, so that we can genuinely understand our client's needs. Diverse teams bring a broader range of ideas and insights to work. That's why we're working together to ensure our firm's principles and processes support a firm culture that embraces difference and strengthens inclusion.
