Job Description

The Opportunity

Are you studying towards a Degree in Engineering/Science based discipline (e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Design Engineering)? Do you want a taste of the career you could have with Mondelez? Sink your teeth into one of our internships.

Our R&D Internships are 12 months long (although some roles have the flexibility to be shorter) and during your placement, we’ll make you an integral part of our team and give you a real job – with real responsibilities – from day one. We hope to help you expand your horizons and will encourage your personal and professional development.

We want to make sure you get the most from your time with us. That’s why once you join we’ll work out ambitious but achievable goals for you. Then through the support of a buddy and regular reviews with your manager, we’ll help you achieve them.

Life in Research & Development (R&D)

  • As an intern at Mondelēz International you will be responsible and accountable for your project(s).
  • During the placement you will be expected to plan and execute tests of various scale (e.g. benchtop, pilot plant, and factory) as appropriate for your project as well as to coordinate informal sensory assessment.
  • Key deliverables would be to produce technical reports/presentations and periodically communicate your key findings to stakeholders.
  • You will also have the opportunity to interact with the wider R&D Community, other business functions and external suppliers.
  • In addition to this you may also be expected to support other ongoing project activities in and outside of your immediate team.
  • For some roles, occasional international travel may be required.

Bournville

This is one of our key global chocolate technical centres within our global Research & Development function. Teams work on a variety of chocolate-based discovery, development & deployment projects supporting our various markets around the world.

This R&D Packaging - Engineering (Seasonals & Tablets) Internship - Taste The Future Program UK offers a unique opportunity to drive innovation from concepts through to shelf. You’ll contribute to the commercialisation of packaging concepts for iconic brands, helping translate consumer needs into well-loved packaging experiences.

This job application has two available positions – one in the seasonals team, focusing on products such as Easter eggs, and one in the tablets team, focusing on products such as Cadbury Dairy Milk sharing bars.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and collaborate on a range of projects from ideation to continuous improvement.
  • Conduct prototype creation and development at workshop and pilot scale
  • Design of technical drawings and specifications for new packaging developments
  • Attending line trials, first production and commissioning at factory scale

Seasonal team

  • Research new seasonal trends and perform competitor analysis.
  • Build technical rigour on material selection with basic awareness of material properties.

Tablets team

  • Assist in building the understanding of packaging materials and machinery interactions
  • Conduct testing to support data driven decision making

What we’re looking for

A curious, and thoughtful mind who is excited about bringing creative problem solving to life. You are likely to have:

  • Education: Background in Engineering/Science based discipline preferred (e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Design Engineering) 2:1 degree - predicted end result (or equivalent)
  • Creativity & Curiosity: You love to explore, ideate, and challenge the norm. You’re not afraid to ask, “what if?”
  • Communication Skills: Able to clearly express decisions from rough concepts to polished presentations and technical reports.
  • Digital Proficiency: Adaptable to the latest internal and external tools. Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop), CAD or 3D modelling experience is a plus but not essential.
  • Technical Rigour: Able to apply scientific approach to new situations whilst maintaining a well thought out approach. Basic awareness of material properties is a plus but not essential.
  • Collaborative Mindset: Comfortable working in diverse teams with project managers, marketers, engineers, and suppliers.
  • Agility: Able to manage multiple tasks, adapt quickly, and respond to feedback constructively.

Salary and rewards

  • Starting salary: £23,793
  • Reasonable travel expenses will be covered for the final stage assessment center.

Eligibility

  • This position does not meet the minimum salary requirements for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Therefore, we are unable to consider applicants who require sponsorship.
  • Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK.
