Job Description

Your role

Interested in doing legal work in finance, but not sure where to start? Do you want to see how legal advice shapes business decisions at one of the world’s leading financial institutions?

We're looking for ambitious students to join our 2027 Internship Program within our Group Legal function in London.

You’ll:

  • gain first-hand insight into how an in-house legal team supports internal clients, manages legal risk and contributes to strategic initiatives, including the responsible use of technology and AI in legal work
  • assist in analysing legal matters across a wide range of practice areas, such as UK financial services regulation, commercial contracts, technology and corporate governance
  • conduct legal research and support the preparation of legal notes, briefings and contractual documentation for business stakeholders
  • support legal professionals in advising business and support functions on practical, business-focused legal questions
  • contribute to regulatory implementation, digital transformation and cross-functional projects
  • collaborate with stakeholders across the business, working in risk, compliance and other corporate functions

Your team

You’ll be working within the Group Legal function in London. We provide high-quality legal advice to internal clients across the bank and support strategic, regulatory and technology-driven initiatives. We work closely with our business partners to help navigate complex UK and international legal and regulatory environments, managing legal risk to enable sustainable business growth. Unlike a traditional legal internship, this role provides insight into how legal advice is embedded in day-to-day business decisions within a global financial institution.

Your expertise

We’re looking for a curious and motivated candidate with a strong interest in law, business and the financial services industry who:

  • is studying towards, or has recently completed, an undergraduate law degree or an equivalent qualification
  • is on track for, or has achieved, at least a 2:1 degree or equivalent
  • is hard-working, trustworthy, dedicated and collaborative
  • is a strategic thinker with strong communication skills
  • is motivated to work in a business with high demands and tight deadlines
  • can demonstrate how experimental and responsible use of AI can improve outcomes and efficiency
  • has excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and a precise, structured and detail-oriented working style
  • has excellent written and spoken English
  • can evidence how experimental and responsible use of AI can improve outcomes and efficiency

We’re looking for someone who’s curious and wants to thrive in a business that never stops moving. It’sI important to have an interest in the financial services industry. We want to see what makes you unique and discover what you can bring to our team. Perhaps you’ve organised a fundraising event, taken part in team sports or stepped out of your comfort zone to learn about a subject you found challenging. Let us know how your achievements match the skills we’re looking for.

Your program

This paid internship will start in 2027 and last three months. You’ll work with our experts and learn about the industry, our clients and our firm. You’ll be right at the heart of our in-house legal function, learning from your colleagues and taking part in day-to-day operations. You'll be supported by mentors along the way and will have the chance to get to know some of the most senior members of our teams.

You’ll have plenty of opportunities to develop new skills and make contacts along the way. If you like challenges, enjoy learning and want to work where no two days are the same, this program is for you.
