IT Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship - Twynham Learning

About Twynham Learning:

Working alongside the school’s IT Technicians, support the development and maintenance of the local IT provision at Twynham TGS; ensuring that staff and pupils have access to the right connectivity, devices and software / systems to support their teaching and learning. Learn new IT skills ‘on the job’ and through formal apprenticeship learning arrangements.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out pre-determined day to day monitoring of physical and virtual servers to maintain sufficient storage and resolve issues/errors.
  • To support the resolution of issues with the physical or wireless networks.
  • To support the resolution of issues with the telephony network.
  • Ensure that staff and sixth form pupils are issued promptly with ID badges.
  • Actively promote good practice within the schools to ensure that data is kept secure.
  • Run regular reports to identify safeguarding risks from web searches; working confidentially with leaders to protect others.
  • Flagging any suspicious network activity to leaders and/or Core Services colleagues as appropriate.
  • Ensure that staff, pupil and volunteer (governance) accounts are created within the TL standard, including that accounts are closed / archived as individuals depart or change roles. Utilise the schools’ MIS data to automate processes wherever possible.
  • Actively use the Trust’s shared helpdesk to resolve issues; ensuring prompt service and clear communication.
  • Support the IT Manager with the configuration and issuing of devices to individuals, groups or to set rooms, utilising Microsoft’s end point manager to create the relevant task sequence for each group of devices.
  • Support the booking of shared IT resources and support their use as required in classes / at events.
  • Support the resolution of issues with printers (multi-function devices).
  • Check local software for suitability and security prior to purchase and installation / utilisation.
  • Contribute to ensuring that software licensing is compliant and staff are clear that person-specific logons are never to be shared.
  • Actively seek ways to utilise wider Microsoft functionality within the SharePoint sites, for improved user experience.

Required skills:

  • Passionate and enthusiastic about IT and keen to develop a career in the field.
  • Confidence to deal with colleagues and pupils across Twynham TGS, communicating clearly without excessive technical language.
  • Flexibility to be able to support critical incidents out of hours and, on occasion, to make changes during quiet periods.
  • Ability to travel independently across Twynham Learning/local sites during the working day as required.

Entry requirements:

  • 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 4+ (A-C) in any subject
  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalents) at grades 3+ (D or above)
  • Prospective apprentices must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level as this apprenticeship in a similar subject

Non-standard entry with work experience:

Relevant qualifications and/or work experience will be considered for applicants with potential to benefit from the programme.

You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.

If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.

Working hours: 39.5 hours per week including 30 minutes lunch break.
