Job Description

Quantitative Research (Analytics) Industrial Placement 2026

Who we are

Glencore is one of the world’s largest global diversified natural resource companies and a major producer and marketer of more than 60 commodities that advance everyday life.

Through a network of assets, customers and suppliers that spans the globe, we produce, process, recycle, source, market and distribute the commodities that support decarbonisation while meeting the energy needs of today.

We provide people the opportunity to develop their expertise and the confidence to grow their careers.

The Glencore 2026 Industrial Placement Programme

Designed to accelerate your career in the commodities trading, technology, engineering, or environmental science spheres, this 12-month programme gives talented undergraduates exposure to the world-class people and careers on offer at Glencore.

This is a fast-paced placement in our London office. You will be given your own areas of responsibility and have the opportunity to contribute to the work of the business from day one.

By the end of the programme, you will have developed strong skills in your chosen function. You will also be equipped with the highest level of professionalism, personal ownership and commercial aptitude – skills that are essential to future careers at Glencore.

Industrial placement students may be able to return as full-time team members on our Graduate Programme upon completing their studies, depending on performance and business requirements.

The Quantitative Research Placement

Our trading analysts work directly with our traders to evaluate fundamental global market supply and demand using mathematical and programming techniques. They work closely with traders, shipping, and IT, developing tools in order to deliver value to the business.

Forecasting market trends and strategic global thinking are important skills in this role – a good analyst will proactively form an independent view of the market and present clear and concise data to support this opinion.

Working alongside the team, the data-driven insights you develop will be used to add value and inspire commercial strategy within the trading teams.

Key requirements:

  • A keen interest in the Finance, Energy, or Oil industries.
  • Strong numerical skills and a highly analytical mindset.
  • Experience in a programming language, such as Python, strongly preferred.
  • Experience with data analysis, data visualisation or machine learning preferred.

Who we look for

We are looking for driven, talented undergraduate students who are interested in an exciting, challenging career in the commodities sector.

Working at Glencore requires commercial awareness, adaptability and resilience – and you will need to thrive in team environments as well as take initiative independently.

We look for disciplined people who can demonstrate entrepreneurial ability, thrive on logistical challenges and can provide practical solutions to complex problems using their numerical capabilities.

You must be studying a degree with a year in industry, and successful candidates need to be available to start their placements in July 2026.

Application requirements

You are required to submit a CV and covering letter. Through the use of evidence and examples, your application must demonstrate:

  • Where you have generated additional value by utilising your entrepreneurial flair, commercial innovation or initiative.
  • Your resilience and determination to succeed in a commercial/competitive environment.
  • Your proficiency in solving and communicating complex problems.
  • Your ability to build relationships, work in and influence a team.

Applications close: 05/12/2025

The successful candidate must have the right to work in the UK by the start of the placement.
