Summer Intern - Wealth Management
At Schroders
Internship (1 Month+)
Economics
What did you do day-to-day?
As an intern, I had a surprising level of exposure to all areas of the Wealth Management. I completed a wide range of tasks, from researching stock and building spreadsheets to analysing data and even taking part in client meetings. The meetings were particularly exciting, because I got to take on a rare level of responsibility.
What were your highlights?
The stock project really stood out for me. The other wealth management intern and I worked together to analyse stocks and decide on a buy or sell position for each one. We had to then formally present our decisions in a meeting. It was really rewarding to see the team making real decisions following on from our recommendations.
My other highlight was the trading simulation exercise. It was a brilliant introduction to life as a fund manager. We worked in teams of four to make investment decisions across a range of asset classes. We had to write weekly reports and manage the portfolio in line with real market changes. It ran for the whole eight weeks, and it was a chance to work with interns from other departments.
How would you rate your internship?
As a learning experience it was really good. I got to see almost every area of Schroders. So when I was offered a place on the Wealth Management grad scheme, I already had a lot of experience to build on. The next challenge is to gain some professional qualifications and become a valued Wealth Manager with Schroders.
