Insurance Executive Placement
At DCL Insurance
Placement (10 Months+)
I joined DCL as a university student on a placement year. I wanted to take a year out to focus on learning key fundamentals for working in an office environment and to utilise the skills I had been gaining during my course. I was given the role of Insurance Executive and worked closely with all clients within the Renewals department.
Within my role at DCL, I had to build rapport with clients and have learnt other skills, such as working as a team to hit targets, working under pressure, building confidence, being professional, and providing customer service. I now have a great understanding of the insurance industry, which continues to grow regularly, thanks to the induction training I received, which detailed everything I needed to know, not just within my department but across the whole process. This would allow for cross-training opportunities. While I was there, I was cross-trained in field sales and have been given the chance to work from my university.
Working in a team was a very important aspect of my role, as quotas had to be hit. From the day I walked in, I felt supported by my managers and included as part of a team by my colleagues. This was evident when experienced colleagues shared knowledge to benefit me, creating a safe place for questions. Advice I would give a student or anyone following in my footsteps is to take the opportunity to work for DCL, as it offers a wide range of career paths.
