Milena's Day in the Life: Risk Analyst

Explain your role

Control Room’s role is to safeguard material non-public information and maintain the information wall, amongst other things. On a daily basis the team interacts with different front line units, including individuals from Banking, Trading, Research, Legal and Technology.

What does a typical day look like in your role?

Given we have Control Room teams across regions, we ensure there is collaboration across different time zones to maintain a global presence. We monitor the shared inbox, work on projects, attend in-person meetings, and collaborate on calls.

How did you find the work when you first started in your role?

Initially, I found it quite challenging to grasp the different processes and tasks that the team completes on a daily basis. There are numerous workstreams that co-exist, so you have to be switched on at all times, ensuring no errors are made (especially with sensitive matters).

Over time I found a balance between completing tasks on my own and ‘learning by doing’ whilst being cautious to ensure no mistakes are made. With the support of my team, I felt confident to take the leap and over time complete all the work my own, knowing I can always ask for a second opinion.

Can you tell us about a project you’ve really enjoyed in your role?

Automating BAU (business as usual) processes, specifically helping increase efficiency of daily task completion and ensuring there is a lower probability of errors occurring. I have worked with a global team on the project, and it is in its final stages of implementation.

Is there any more information about your role and what you do that you’d like to share?

Aside from BAU activities and project work in the team, I also work closely with our volunteer taskforce and try to volunteer monthly. I lead the Events Committee in London for the graduate cohort, ensuring we have monthly socials and closely collaborate with graduates across the other regions, so that we can facilitate a friendly and supportive environment. I am grateful that I get to organise events that my peers enjoy, from private viewings in famous art galleries and museums across London, to dinners and lunches with all graduate cohorts.
