Job overview
You will be working for Places for London, a dedicated commercial property company set up by TfL to manage its commercial estate and property development. It plays a key role in shaping London.
TfL owns a 5,700 acres estate that includes land and properties, with huge potential for creating the homes and jobs the Capital needs. Our landholdings can play a vital role in meeting the Mayor's priorities to build affordable homes and the generation of thriving mixed use places, while generating revenue to re-invest in improving our transport network. We are committed to creating a fairer, greener, healthier and more prosperous city.
You will be working in the Planning and Design (P&D) team whose role is to: provide strategic and development management planning advice to teams working across Places for London; engage with boroughs to secure appropriate planning policies and site allocations; lead the planning process and secure permission for our schemes; liaise with all stakeholders on planning matters; and ensure that Places for London delivers great design, quality and sustainability.
What will I be doing?
You will be a Planning and Development Assistant in the Property Development, P&D team; helping realise Mayoral objectives to deliver new homes, affordable housing, high quality place making and income generation through the development of TfL property across the commercial estate. You will undertake planning research, appraise potential development sites and opportunities, review planning policy, provide planning advice to colleagues and generally support the progression of development schemes.
Whilst you will be part of the P&D team, the role will also provide opportunities for you to gain experience of other roles in property development. You will work closely with other parts of TfL, the GLA, local authorities, developers, consultants, and other key stakeholders.
You will make a valuable contribution to exciting and innovative projects in London, helping you to develop your understanding of planning and development issues and processes.
Our aim is to equip you with a range of skills and experience to supplement your degree studies and help you embark upon your successful career.
Sustainability
Sustainability is intrinsic to TfL’s work ethos, and we ensure that we operate in a sustainable way to protect and regenerate the natural world.
You will help to implement our Sustainable Development Framework (SDF) and the Mayor’s ‘good growth’ agenda on projects.
Where can this take me?

- Housebuilding and other development
- Surveying
- Property research and data
- Academia

- Sustainability
- Local Government

What training and support will you get?
Our award-winning teams will support your ongoing development, through a wide range of on-the-job practical experience. We will support your professional development through a combination of training, mentoring, and networking.
You'll also receive one-to-one guidance throughout the programme from your:
