Job Description
Women in Trading Summer Internship Programme (Germany)
From here, choose a whole world of experience
Looking to gain experience at a leading European energy trading house with real growth potential? Want to work alongside industry experts, building experience and skills that will help you flourish in your early career?
Our ‘Women in Trading’ Summer Internship is offering a unique opportunity to female students in their penultimate year of studies to join us for a 3 month summer internship from mid June - September and take their crucial first steps into the exciting world of commodity trading. We recognise the under-representation of females within the energy sector and are committed to improving diversity. We also believe this will help bring diversity of thought, and help us adapt to the transforming landscape of opportunities and challenges, from digitalisation to decarbonisation.
Our programme is designed to provide an authentic insight into a trading career at RWE Supply & Trading. It combines experiential learning of the commodity trading world, with exposure to our front office teams, giving participants tangible commercial and operational exposure — not just theory. The placement also focuses on empowerment through development, mentorship as well as a supportive culture, and aims to inspire by showcasing the talented women within our commercial business. Alongside practical experience and skills-building, our interactive sessions will help you develop confidence in a professional environment and allow you to feel comfortable bringing your whole self to the workplace. In addition, you will also receive guidance and support from both a mentor and a buddy to help you navigate the trading environment.
About the role
From day one, you can expect to:
- Develop a deep understanding of energy markets, from the fundamentals that drive supply and demand to the strategies and technologies shaping modern trading.
- Apply statistical models to design and develop trading strategies and algorithms tailored to energy markets.
- Harness big data technologies to analyse supply, demand, and market fundamentals, identifying trading opportunities across power, gas, and carbon.
- Turn data into decisions by combining rigorous quantitative analysis with cutting-edge technology to deliver models that perform with speed, precision, and impact in fast-moving energy markets.
- Gain exposure to a variety of trading and analyst desks, experiencing the dynamics of global energy markets first-hand
You will also:
- Explore our company and culture, and build your professional network by gaining access to supportive and diverse networks such as: RWE’s Women’s Network, ‘Meet and Greet’ with female desk heads and board members, Career stories from talented women across RWEST
- Gain a glimpse into our Graduate Development Journey through innovative tools and empowering workshops designed to nurture your skills, confidence, and help you with success in your early career journey from day one and beyond.

What you must have is:
- Enthusiasm and drive to develop your skillset and seek out development opportunities within a supportive team
